Abstract
The homogeneity range of the U4O9 phase has been determined by X-ray analysis, metallography, chemical analysis and electron microscopy. It extends from O/U = 2.235 to 2.240 at 1100 °C and from O/U = 2.235 to 2.245 at room temperature, excluding the stoichiometric composition O/U = 2.250. The U4O9-y, to UO2+x transition at 1125 °C is interpreted as an order-disorder transformation.
