Abstract

The paper contains a description of the optimisation procedure performed during a design study of the poolside facility at the High Flux Materials Testing Reactor BR2 for neutron doping of large silicon crystals. Analysis of different moderator materials to maintain thermal neutron flux distributions in silicon crystals and the influence of geometrical design of the facility on neutron flux distributions and on nuclear heating were performed during the optimisation. Special attention in the design was paid for the feedback reactivity effect in the BR2 reactor core and to nuclear heating in moderator. A description of several variants of the poolside facility for irradiation of silicon crystals of the diameter 15-20 cm in the reactor pool of the BR2 is included in the present paper.
