Abstract
The corrosion resistance of magnesium and of magnesium-zirconium in view of their possible use as cladding materials for BR1 fuel elements was tested.
The effect of surface treatment, of hydrofluoric acid, of thermal cycling, and of welding, on the corrosion of these materials in humid air was determined.
It is concluded that magnesium is suitable for use in humid air up to 350°C.
