Abstract
The unicellular marine green alga Acetabularia mediterranea forms at maturity a single cap, in which later cysts differentiation takes place. Dichotomic and polychotomic cells are very useful for the study of nucleocytoplasmic relationships. They form at maturity two or more caps, which become replete with normal cysts. It is suggested that, possibly, cytoplasmic factors regulate nuclear DNA replication.
