Abstract
The position of the lowest positive-parity state in odd p-shell nuclei is calculated in the framework of projected Hartree-Fock theory, using the interaction of Volkov. The agreement with experiment is good in the first half of the 0p shell but becomes less good towards the end. Possible reasons for this discrepancy are discussed.
