Abstract

The progress made in the last decade In Chemical protection against radiation damage is encouraging. Of alI compounds AET and MEA are to-day the two most active ones. But at large doses they are too toxic for extensive human use. Increased efforts for a better understanding of their mechanism of action, and of their utilization in large animals and in specific systems including tumors, should Iead to the discovery of more effective and Iess toxic substances. Such Chemicals with low toxicity and differential distributions to normal and tumor tissue, could have considerable application in radiotherapy.
