    Abstract

The sea is a complex system containing different components (water column, suspended particulates, colloids, sediments and organic matter) and inhabited by life forms at multiple scales (from plankton to large mammals), undergoing complex interactions. This book chapter deals with the interaction of radioactiver pollutants with the marine environment, describing in detail the sources, processes, fate and transport of radionuclides in that complex environment.
