Abstract
Once started as a small irradiation facility, the purpose of the MYRRHA programme is to demonstrate the ADS concept at pre-industrial scale, to demonstrate transmutation and to serve as a flexible and multipurpose irradiation facility. Since the beginning of MYRRHA in 1998, SCK•CEN has launched a strong R&D support programme to address the main design challenges, in particular those related to the use of liquid Lead-Bismuth Eutectic (LBE) as reactor coolant and spallation target. In September 2018, the Belgian government has approved the whole budget proposal for the construction of a first installation and its operation until 2038. In this paper, we describe the present status of the MYRRHA programme and the perspectives for implementation on through a first infrastructure in 2026 to the full MYRRHA operation in 2036.
