Abstract

This document is a follow up report of the previously published reports SCK•CEN-ER-83 “SCC susceptibility studies of C-steel in artificial concrete pore solutions – Status on January 2009 ”, SCK•CEN-ER-300 “SCC susceptibility study of C-steel in cementitious environments relevant to the Supercontainer design – SSRT experiments under open circuit potential” and SCK CEN-ER-0840 “SCC study of C-steel in highly alkaline and anoxic media – SSRT experiments under open circuit potential. Status report December 2020 ”. Report SCK•CEN-ER-83 summarises the SSRT results obtained in the period 2005-2008. Report SCK•CEN-ER-300 summarises the SSRT results obtained in the period 2009-2017. Version 1 of report SCK•CEN-ER 300 studies the effect of sulphide (in YCW under anoxic conditions) on the SCC behaviour and describes the test results obtained in the period 2009-2015. Version 2 of this report includes the test results of the thiosulphate containing solutions as well as the data of the ductility parameters reduction in area ratio (RAR) and time to failure ratio (TTFR). This work was performed in the period 2015 2017. Report SCK CEN ER 0840 includes the test results obtained in the chloride containing solutions and in the solutions containing chloride, sulphide and thiosulphate. This work was carried out in the period 2018 2019. Report SCK CEN ER 1178 provides an update of the SSRT tests in the sense that the data of some of the missing SSRT tests are included (because our stock of some batches of tensile specimens was completely exhausted during the previous testing campaign). SSRT tests were conducted for tensile specimens machined from the base metal (BM L) exposed to chloride containing solutions and to YCW containing various concentrations of chloride, sulphide and thiosulphate simultaneously. Also, some SSRT tests that showed erratic results have been repeated.
