    Abstract

We analyzed spectral dependence of modal birefringence and susceptibility to temperature and to strain in two birefringent photonic bandgap fibers. The birefringence in these fibers is induced by the elliptical shape of either the core or the cladding holes. We show that in one of the fibers, the sensitivity to temperature and to strain reaches zero in the center of the photonic bandgap. Our calculation method is fully vectorial and based on a hybrid edge/nodal finite element approach.
