The rate of polymerization of β-propiolacetone in the solid state and the molecular weight of the resulting polymer have been studied as a function of dose, dose rate, temperature, oxygen content of the monomer and initially formed polymer. Some other physical and chemical properties of the polymer are reported. The experimental results are discussed on the basis of stationary and non-stationary state mechanism.
