Abstract

Measurements of the energy distribution of scattered neutrons reveal at low frequencies an indication of two peaks in water, a continuous spectrum in heavy water and one peak in aequous solutions of H F for concentrations of 5, 10 and 25 weight percent. A phenomenological description of the one peak observed for HF in H2O in terms of the self-correlation function Gs(r, t) suggests that this peak is due to proton fluctuations.
