Abstract
Some of the physical and biological factors related to the mechanisms of radiation induced cancers are examined. An understanding of mechanisms of radiocarcinogenesis cannot be separated from problems related to carcinogenesis in general and needs a multidisciplinary approach. Generalization of a qualitative nature have been possible on the basis of animal data, and these may be useful to understand how cancer can occur following irradiation in man. However, a quantitative determination of the risk estimate is not possible on the basis of the limited data available.
