    Abstract

The report gives a short review of the electric power distribution as a function of the type of power station and the time at which the electricity is delivered. The quantity of "off-peak electricity" to be expected in the future dépends on the composition of the electricity machine park, 50% nuclear electricity being a threshold above whioh off-peak power has to be stored on a seasonal basis. Hydraulic power stations constitufe the most economical method tor electricity storage; however, it is only a short-term solution (day, week-end). Among the Systems under development, only mixed pumpcompressed air storage and compressed air storage solely, will be the first to succeed to hydraulic power stations, particularly in low-relief régions. Electricity storage in batteries can only be realized for low powers and the use of water or chloric acid electrolysis is a future application which can play a rôle tor seasonal storage. More futuristic solutions such as mechanical storage in gyroscopes and electromagnetic storage in cryogénie magnets, will not enter the running before the next two decades.
