Abstract
Two aspects of the method of symmetry restriction of the Hartree-Fock equations are examined. These are the compatibility between particle number and imposed symmetry and the possibility of describing states with given quantum numbers by the projection method. Some specific symmetries with applicability to nuclear physics are discussed. Numerical results for light nuclei are presented.
