Abstract

Incorporation of 3H thymidine into DNA was studied in the isoltaed perfused liver after partial hepatectomy. Synthesis of DNA increases in the perfused liver from 18 to 36 hours after partial hepatectomy and decreases at a later time in a similar manner as in the intact animal. Radioactive thymidine is degraded rapidly by the perfused liver and 62% of the radioactivity added has been converted, 30 minutes after addition of labeled thymidine, into volatile compounds. About 0.7 % of the radioactive thymidine added is incorporated into DNA of normal liver whereas 13% is incorporated into DNA of liver after partial hepatectomy.
