Abstract

α and β-tritiated phenylalanine with a radioactivity of 16 Ci/mM was prepared by reduction of α-acetaminocinnamoyl-L-glutamic acid with tritium hydrogen, separation by crystallization of the resulting diastereoisomers and hydrolysis, followed by chromatography of the acetyl-L-phenylalanyl-L-glutamic acid. Paper chromatograms showed the radioactive purity of the compound ; specific rotation assayed on a non-radioactive specimen prepared in the same way was correct.
