T1 - Tables of distribution-free unilateral and bilateral confidence limits for the quartiles
AU - Van Der Parren, Jeannine
PY - 1972/7
Y1 - 1972/7
N2 - For any univariate continuous parent-population, unilateral and bilateral confidence limits are tabulated for sample sizes n=4 (1) 150 and a confidence level close to but exceeding 0.95. The exact value of the confidence level is given. The bilateral limits cannot be defined uniquely : one may aim to approach cal tails, but an overall optimum cannot be found in all cases. For this reason, two intervals are often proposed. By regarding the exact confidence levels (total, to the left and to the right) the reader is better informed and can avoid certain pitfalls. Sometimes, the author was tempted to offer three alternatives, but abandoned this procedure for the sake of clear presentation.
