    Abstract

The fifth edition of the SCK•CEN Barometer - the 2013 survey- took place in August-September 2013. It continued the historical follow-up of topics such as risk perception, confidence in authorities, opinion about nuclear energy, trust in nuclear actors and knowledge about the nuclear domain. It also addressed in detail a number of issues among which: strength of arguments supporting or opposing nuclear energy, the accident at Fukushima (trust and use of various information sources and consumer's attitude towards contaminated food) and communication about ionising radiation. The field work was carried out between 15/08/2013 and 13/09/2013 by a company specialised in opinion research (IPSOS Belgium) with professional interviewers. The method employed was CAPI ("Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing"), the answers being directly recoded and stored on a computer hard disk. The sample consisted of N=1002 Belgian adults and is representative for the (18+) Belgian population with respect to gender, age category (3 categories), province, education and habitat. The average duration of the interviews was 35 minutes.
