    Abstract

The national survey for the seventh edition of the SCK•CEN Barometer took place in November 2017 through to February 2018. It followed up topics investigated in previous editions, such as perception of radiological risks, confidence in authorities, opinion about nuclear energy, trust in nuclear actors and knowledge about the nuclear domain, and included also special research sections. These were dedicated to the following subjects: expected behaviour in emergency situations, public information issues in nuclear emergencies, and the acceptance of geological disposal of high‐level radioactive waste. The field work was carried out by a company specialised in opinion research (IPSOS‐Belgium), with professional interviewers. Data were collected from 27 November 2017 till 26 February 2018 using Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI). The sample consisted of N=1083 adults and is representative for the (18+) Belgian population with respect to gender, age, education, level of urbanisation of the living habitat and province. The average duration of the interviews was 50 minutes. The final database was delivered by IPSOS on 06/03/2018. The main results are summarised below. The survey section on expected behaviour in emergency situations has been reported more in detail in deliverable D9.26 of the H2020 CONCERT CONFIDENCE project (Turcanu et al, 2018b). The section on high‐level waste disposal constitutes the object of a separate report (Turcanu et al, 2018a). Finally, the section on the effect of narrative vs. numerical information will be reported in subsequent work at the SCK•CEN and the University of Antwerp.
