Abstract
In the frame of the doctoral research of Mr Denis Bwabwa we will investigating the use of struvite as an alternative source of nutrient for the cultivation of Limnospira indica PCC8005 P1 in various laboratory bench scale conditions.
The main objective of this work is to find out which components of the regular cultivation medium (i.e inspiration medium) can be efficiently replaced by using struvite. The final goal is to design a new optimized and cost-effective growth medium for spirulina production in the conditions of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The growth of the cyanobacteria was followed by optical density measurement as well as other growth parameters including pH, light intensity and microscopy. The viability status of the culture was then analysed using a flow cytometry, and protein content was also monitored.
